Rohit Modi’s appointment aims to focus on building wind power in BRIC markets such as China

India’s largest wind turbine manufacturer has appointed a CEO to focus on boosting wind power in the BRIC markets. Wind firm Suzlon has announced the appointment of Rohit Modi to rejoin the company as CEO for India and Emerging Markets. He will focus on driving business growth for wind energy in India and oversee key emerging markets including Brazil, China and South Africa.

Modi returns to Suzlon with an extensive experience of 27 years in the both union and state government services and a number of infrastructure companies.

Speaking on his latest role, Modi said: “Emerging markets, like India, Brazil and South Africa, represent the largest growth in demand for power in years to come, and have the greatest need for sustainable, cost effective sources like wind. I believe the Suzlon Group is ideally positioned to take advantage of this opportunity, and I am looking forward to this challenging new assignment.”

Modi holds a master’s degree in economics from The Delhi School of Economics. He joined the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) in 1985 and worked in various senior positions within both the government of India and the state government of Manipur.

He later went on to work with Tamil Nadu Road Development Company, Road Infrastructure Development Company of Rajasthan, Mahindra Industrial Park, Larsen & Toubro and IL&FS in senior executive positions. His last assignment was with civil engineering firm Gammon India where he served as deputy managing director.
