Plans to build India's first geothermal power plants are underway. Indian states Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal are the first of many to announce interest in developing the BRIC country's first geothermal energy plant, with power capacity in the range of 3MW to 5MW.

US firm Ormat Technologies has signed a contract to develop a geothermal power project with up to 60MW capacity in Indonesia. Ormat has announced it has signed an agreement for the development of the Hu'u Dompu project on Indonesia's Sumbawa Island.

A US gas and chemical firm will build and operate the world’s largest gasification energy-from-waste (EfW) facility in the UK, it emerged this week. Pennsylvania’s Air Products will construct and manage the Tees Valley plant located near Billingham, Teesside.
An Italian renewables firm is using US geothermal technology to build a plant in Utah. Italy’s Enel Green Power has selected technology of Nevada firm Ormat technologies to develop its 25 MW Cove Fort geothermal plant in the US.
