The Brazilian Government has approved a 350MW joint hydropower plant project to be built in Parana state. The Administrate Council of Economic Defence (ACED) has agreed for Brazilian energy firms Neoenergia and Copel to construct the $710m plant on the BRIC country’s Iguacu River.

A French hydro firm has commissioned the world's most powerful hydroelectric units at Xiangjiaba hydro power plant in China. All four hydro units, manufactured by French firm Alstom, for China's Xiangjiaba underground hydro power plant have now successfully entered commercial operation.

French firm Alstom Renewable Power has been selected by Energias do Brazil to supply all electromechanical equipment to Cachoeira Caldeirão, a 220MW hydro plant in the BRIC country.

India’s Tata Group looks to invest in a 400MW hydroelectric power project in Georgia, according to reports. The news comes after meetings with the Black Sea country’s billionaire Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, including in Davos, Switzerland.
