UK hydropower association in BRIC collaboration to promote development in China

Leading hydropower organisations in the UK and China have partnered to promote the renewable energy sector in the BRIC country. The UK’s International Hydropower Association (IHA) has announced it will collaborate with the China Society for Hydropower Engineering (CSHE), the BRIC country’s leading organisation for hydropower engineering professionals, to promote sustainable hydropower development and build knowledge of the renewable energy sector.

The collaboration will lead to the establishment of an IHA National Office in China. CSHE also recently hosted IHA at a high-level meeting in Beijing, which gathered leaders from the hydropower sector in China and the world.

The IHA said: “With 40,000 individual members and 203 corporate members including 22 provincial hydropower engineering societies, CSHE has agreed to work with IHA on promoting sustainable hydropower development in China and building knowledge on hydropower development.”

The news from the IHA follows developments to boost marine energy in the BRIC country. This includes the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Scotland announcing an international collaboration agreement to develop a marine energy test facility in Taiwan.
