US visit to develop smart grid systems for China

Developments could be made in Chinese smart grid systems after a utility has visited firms in California.
A delegation of the China Southern Power Grid CGS) utility that serves more than 230 million customers has visited Glendale, California to learn more about the city's smart grid.
The CSG invests, constructs and operates power networks in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan provinces and regions of China.
The CGS delegation visited California firm Glendale Water & Power (GWP). Glendale said it visited GWP to get an appreciation for deployment of the Smart Grid project and see the processes used by a utility that simultaneously installed electric and water smart meters.
The delegation will also visit other utilities in Southern California that are successfully implementing smart meters.
Glenn Steiger, Glendale Water & Power’s general manager, said: “It is quite an honour for GWP to host a utility as large as CSG that serves over 230 million customers, and is interested in learning about GWP’s successful smart grid implementation.”
